What does CPG marketing look like measured?

Measured, a CPG category's attention splits three ways: category search demand (large and mostly owned by incumbents and publishers), occasion and diet phrasings (where challenger demand actually lives), and AI answers (young and open: in our full benchmark of a US snack category, AI Overviews appeared on 15 to 17 of 40 questions and small sites held 32% of citations, meaning challengers can still be cited). 'Cpg marketing' is searched 720 times a month in the US at difficulty 0. (Nukebook, 2026-08-28.)

The adjacent demand: "dtc marketing" 390 searches a month and "ecommerce seo" 2,400 searches a month (difficulty 58: the generic phrase is a war; the category-specific doors are not). Bids on this page's term run $13.35. measured

What the benchmark actually showed

The biggest-volume category questions were closed: complete, authority-cited answers not worth a challenger's effort, and we said so with evidence. The winnable demand sat one step sideways: occasion phrasings, diet phrasings, and figure-poor AI answers a brand's own label facts could win. Full numbers in the CPG benchmark.

The CPG-specific rule

Your label is a content asset: every verifiable fact on it (grams, sourcing, certifications) is exactly the figure-bearing substance AI answers lack and cite. The brands winning citations in our data are the ones publishing their numbers, not their adjectives.

Method: query metrics from DataForSEO (2026-08-27 to 28); category figures from our full August 2026 CPG benchmark run (two-pull protocol, fitted taxonomy), market-level only. Figure registry: /figures/cpg-marketing.figures.json.
