The GEO audit, defined by people who run them.

An uncontested term for a thing we do weekly. Here is exactly what a real one contains.
If you searched "geo audit"

What we measured about it: 170 times a month of demand, difficulty 0 of 100, and the current AI answer cites list posts and tool vendors, not practitioners.

Run on your market, a read shows: a real GEO audit: your real search demand under every phrasing, which AI answers in your market are open, partial or closed (with the evidence), what your competitors run in the public ad archives, and your break-even numbers computed from your own economics.

What is a GEO audit?

A GEO audit (generative engine optimization audit) measures whether AI-generated answers, such as Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT or Perplexity, can find, parse and cite a website as a source. A complete GEO audit checks four things: whether AI answers exist on the site's buyer questions (measured twice, because answers change), what those answers currently cite, whether the site's content is crawlable and figure-bearing enough to be citable, and which answer gaps are winnable. As of August 2026, every one of the 8 of 8 we measured carried an AI Overview, so the surface being audited already exists for most commercial queries. (Measured 170 times a month on the term itself; Nukebook, 2026-08-28.)

"Geo audit" is searched about 170 times a month at a keyword difficulty of 0 of 100, with a top bid of $16.91; the umbrella term "generative engine optimization" carries 4,400 searches a month and the agency phrasing another 390 searches a month. measured

What a real GEO audit contains

Presence, twice. Which buyer questions carry AI answers today, measured with two pulls because single reads overstate stability. Citation state. Whom each answer cites, classified by displaceability. Your citability. Whether your pages are server-rendered, figure-bearing, sourced and dated: the properties cited pages share. The doors. Every question classified open, partial or closed, with evidence, so effort lands only where it can win.

What a GEO audit is not

It is not a rank report with a new acronym, and it is not a promise of AI traffic. An honest audit tells you where you cannot win, with the evidence: paying for effort against a closed answer is the most expensive mistake in this space.

Method: volumes, difficulties and bids from DataForSEO Google endpoints (2026-08-28); AI Overview presence from our two-pull protocol across three August 2026 market runs plus this lane's own baseline. Figure registry: /figures/geo-audit.figures.json.
