Definition, with measurements

AI visibility, defined properly.

A term everyone suddenly sells and nobody defines with a number. Definition first, numbers attached.
If you searched "what is ai visibility"

What we measured about it: 170 times a month of demand at difficulty 0 of 100, for a term the tools selling it never define with a number.

Run on your market, a read shows: your actual AI visibility on your buyers' questions, measured, and your real search demand under every phrasing, which AI answers in your market are open, partial or closed (with the evidence), what your competitors run in the public ad archives, and your break-even numbers computed from your own economics.

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is the degree to which AI-generated answers (Google's AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and peers) mention or cite a brand when users ask relevant questions. It differs from search rankings in kind: a ranking is a position on a list, while AI visibility is binary per answer: cited or absent. It is measurable by asking the engines a fixed set of buyer questions on a schedule and recording mentions and citations. In our August 2026 measurements, AI answers appeared on 38% to 67% of commercial questions depending on market, which makes AI visibility a mainstream exposure question, not a niche one. (Nukebook, 2026-08-28.)

"What is ai visibility" is searched about 170 times a month at difficulty 0 of 100; the head term "ai visibility" carries 720 searches a month and the commercial tail is loud: "ai visibility tool" 1,600 searches a month and "ai share of voice" 50 searches a month. measured

How to measure it without buying anything

Write down twenty questions your buyers actually ask. Ask them monthly in the engines your buyers use. Record mentions, citations, and whom the answer cites instead of you. That spreadsheet is an AI visibility measurement; everything a tool adds is scale and repeatability, not magic.

What moves it

The pattern in our door data is consistent: answers cite pages that are crawlable, self-contained, and carry checkable figures. Visibility follows citability, and citability is an editorial standard you can adopt this week.

Our own number, published

A definition page from a vendor that hides its own score would be theater, so here is ours. On 2026-08-28 we ran the measurement described above on ourselves: eight buyer questions from our own market's demand data, including "geo audit", "ai seo agency", "ai visibility audit" and the query that likely brought you to this page. An AI answer appeared on 8 of 8. The number of those answers citing nukebook.io: 0 of 8. Our measured AI visibility, at the time of writing, is zero, and we are telling you so on the page that defines the term. measured

The instructive part is who holds the slots instead. Across the eight answers the engines cited 57 distinct sources; on "what is ai visibility" itself the answer drew on eight different sources, among them a content-optimization tool, an enterprise SEO platform and a Q&A forum, none of which attach a measurement to the definition. That roster is the scoreboard this page is trying to join, and because the baseline is recorded and dated, the attempt is checkable rather than aspirational: the same eight questions get re-read on a 60-day cadence with the two-pull protocol, and the wins and losses get published either way.

The baseline also settles, with data, how AI visibility relates to rankings: correlated, not identical. On 7 of the 8 questions, the answer cited at least one site that also held a top-three organic result for the same query, so the visible and the ranked overlap heavily. But the exception matters more than the rule: on the remaining query the generated answer skipped page one's leaders entirely and built its citation list from elsewhere. A ranking is neither necessary nor sufficient for a citation; it is a strong correlate with a measurable exception rate. Which is the whole argument for measuring AI visibility as its own number instead of assuming your rank report already covers it. measured

That is the whole discipline in miniature. AI visibility is not a vibe about being "in the AIs"; it is a count you can be embarrassed by, taken on a date, against named questions, with the re-check already on the calendar. If a vendor quotes you a visibility score, ask for their equivalent of this paragraph.

Method: query metrics from DataForSEO (2026-08-28); market-level AI answer presence from our two-pull August 2026 market runs; the self-measurement is a single-pull baseline of eight queries read 2026-08-28, with the 60-day re-check running the stricter two-pull protocol.
